Dr. Ifeoluwa Adebowale Balogun is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Meteorology, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. Also, he is currently the Associate Director (Remote Sensing and GIS) of the Centre for Space Research and Applications (CESRA) of the University. He had his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees in 2000, 2004 and 2012 respectively from the University. Within his PhD research years, he attended short courses and obtained certificates in Environmental Research at the GKSS School on Environmental Research in Lunenburg, Germany in 2007; and on African Weather and Climate from National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), Boulder, Colorado, USA in 2011.
Ifeoluwa is the Director of Climate and Environmental Resources of the Nigerian Environmental Conservation Organisation (NECOR); and the co-founder of the Environmental Conservation Club (ECC), the student umbrella body of the organization which now exists at several tertiary, secondary and elementary institutions.
He is an applied meteorologist with expertise in urban climate, biometeorology, environmental conservation and climate change. He has specific interest in monitoring, assessing and quantifying urbanisation impacts and associated landuse landcover changes on local climate, air quality and inhabitants comfort. His research interest also includes climate change impacts, adaptation and mitigation with a broad view on conservation mechanisms. He has participated in several field experiments at home and abroad. His current research involves understanding the role of cities and associated landuse landcover changes in modifying weather, climate, air quality and quality of life of inhabitants (man, animal, plants and organisms); and also suggesting how such research may be usefully employed at various scales of management by environmentalists, planners, decision and policy makers. He has authored and co-authored several publications on these issues in reputable local and international journals and has served as reviewer of articles in many journals
He has attended several national and international scientific fora, where he has presented research papers amongst which are the 7th international Conference on Urban Climate (ICUC-7) in Yokoahama, Japan 2009 where he won the Lowry African Student Award; 8th international Conference on Urban Climate (ICUC-8) at Dublin, Ireland 2012 where the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in conjunction with International Association for Urban Climate (IAUC) found him worthy of the joint AMS-IAUC Lowry African Graduate Student Award for the scientific and aesthetic quality of his work and presentations. He is a member of several scientific associations and professional bodies among which are; Nigeria Meteorological Society (NMetS), International Association for Urban Climate (IAUC), African Fire Networks (Afrifirenet), Association of Nigerian Geographers(ANG) and Science Association of Nigeria (SAN).
