Owing to the increasing temperature across the globe, with attendant environmental catastrophes like wildfire that is currently being experiencing in Australia, repeated cases of inferno in some States in Nigeria, urban heatwave and the likes, Netlink Environmental Conservation Organization(NECOR) and Environmental Conservation Club(ECC) (the student arm of NECOR) had declared 14th January as a day to raise consciousness of the populace on the need to take immediate actions to cool the earth through volunteering practices.
NECOR/ECC have demonstrated and mark the date with remarkable and land mark actions including but not limited to water sprinkling/splashing around immediate vicinity, filling of bowls and bucket with water and placed in open courtyard, on top of their vehicles, watering of flowers, crops and other form of plants in the gardens, providing drinking water for thirsty animals, opening of water tap for the public utility and so on
Other members of ECC across the World also mark the date in thier respective communities.
In his remark, Dr. S. O. Oladeji, the President of NECOR and the patron of ECC urged all members at thier different destinations to take actions and mobilise others in marking the day. He encouraged participants to see their actions although being local but have cumulative global effects . The slogan for this year is Australia is no more burning but is becoming saturated with bucket of water sprinkling across the World
